Tigers-White Sox series

The race for the AL Central Division title is going down the stretch and making the turn as the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox are currently deadlocked going into this weekend's four game in three day series. The White Sox come in with lots of momentum coming off of a perfect game thrown by Mark Buehrle yesterday. The Tigers have won one game since coming off the All-Star break but will have their aces Justin Verlander and Edwin Jackson both available to start during the series in hopes that they will be able to come up with much needed victories.
With that in mind the Tigers are also hoping that their recently dormant bats will reawaken, as they have averaged a mere two runs per game since the break, and while their starting rotation has been stellar as of late they have been lacking in run support. Hopefully for them they will be able to get that because against the red hot White Sox runs will be precious and they'll need all that they can get.

This will be the last time the Tigers play the White Sox before playing them and the Minnesota Twins in their last ten games, playing the Sox six times during that time period with a home and home split. At this point every game is a must win as the Tigers head into the dog days of summer.

If you're looking to see this series and hear the roar of the Tigers at Comerica Park, check out Golden Limousine's sports packages. We can get you to the game and get you safe at home, we've got transportation options open to any budget and are a viable option should you need to call in some relief.

Detroit Science Center Tour

Today's the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11's moon landing. Millions of people watched as Neil Armstrong made the "Giant leap for mankind," and every week millions would watch Captain Kirk and co.'s journey through the "final frontier" on Star Trek. It was a time in which America seemed to be obsessed with the idea of space travel.

Even though times have changed there has been a revived interest in space as well as the shows of yester-year with the new Star Trek movie, which is currently showing at the Imax Dome in the Detroit Science Center where you can also find a planetarium and other astronomy related activities. Located in Detroit's Cultural Center behind the Detroit Institute of Arts the Science Center has a full range of science related activities that stimulate the mind in a fun and intellectual way that both children and adults can appreciate.

Golden Limousine is proud to announce that we will be working with the Detroit Science Center in providing charter trips to it as part of our involvement with our Sensational Detroit tours. We will be providing charter bus transportation to the Science Center to any group parties who wish to seek it. For those who want to get a glimpse of the "final frontier," Golden Limousine will do giant leaps for everybody involved including getting there, getting back, and everything in between. Golden opportunities await for those who want them.

Shoes and the Art Fair

Seeing that we are sponsoring the Ann Arbor Art Fair right now I came across a fascinating article in the Free Press today, which seems to sum up the experience for everybody who goes to it. Especially the first four sentences which illustrate the festival experience in a general way.

Planning to go to the Ann Arbor Art Fairs this weekend?

Art is NOT the first thing you should think of.

Shoes are.

There's so much cool, beautiful, fascinating and fun stuff to see at the 50th annual Ann Arbor Art Fairs that you need time and good shoes to take it all in.

Having been to the festival and a few similar others, this quote really hits it on the nail. Festivals are fun but they take up a lot of space that you can't drive around in, the solution? You walk. For some people that can be fairly difficult, but if one appreciates culture it's probably best to take it all in as part of the experience.

Of course if you don't want to walk from your parking spot you can always take the shuttle if you want.

Free Limo Drive/Dinner for two drawing

At the Golden Limousine booth during the Townie Party this past Monday we had people submit names for a drawing for a romantic dinner for two at Hobbes Restaurant with a complimentary limo ride thrown in by us. The results should be in shortly just as soon as our President Sean Duval announces it. Hopefully we'll have photos from the Party soon as well.

Art Fair Shuttle

With the Ann Arbor Art Fair in town there can be a lot of congestion out on the road and it can be an incredible hassle to find a parking space. So much so that in the past that many have stayed away from the festival missing out on the chaotic fun of the festival.

Fortunately nobody needs to worry about that anymore.

Golden Limousine will be running a shuttle from Skyline High School (directions to the Art Fair from 9:45 AM till 7 PM. The shuttles run every 15 minutes because that's the approximated driving distance between the two points. The Art Fair runs from today through Saturday and is one of the biggest Art Festivals in the United States.

With the way the economy has been recently, this event is crucial for many of the artists who are selling their work to be there, so if you appreciate art and the artists who create it, you should be there to support them and their creativity.

Townie Party Tonight

It's a beautiful day for a festival and if the weather's like it is today the Art Fair should be even better. Tonight however is host to the annual Townie Party where there will be bands and booths, including ours, from 5 pm to 9:30 pm. Lots of stuff to check out but while you're there be sure to see what's going on at our booth and talk to the people there. Ask about Golden Limousine and remember to speak loudly because it's gonna be rockin'. Original post here.

There's going to be helium balloons, information and a bus out there for whoever wants to take a look at what we have to offer. Please Please Please, check it out.

Motown Tour

In the aftermath of Michael Jackson's death a lot of people have been reconnecting with his timeless music, especially his hits with the Jackson 5 in the 1970s and as a solo artist in the 80s. A good place to relive some memories of the great entertainer would be the Motown Museum on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit. The old Hitsville USA house which once belonged to Motown Records owner Berry Gordy was one of the sites where the Jackson 5 got their start after Joe Jackson took them from their home in Gary, Indiana to the Motor City for an audition.

Some (albeit not all) of the Jacksons early hits were at least recorded there in 1970-72 including songs like "ABC" and "I Want You Back." By this time you will undoubtedly get a chance to learn more about the Jacksons as well as the other Motown artists as well as the remarkable story of their discovery by an obscure Motown band called The Vancouvers. You can also get to understand the unique and innovative approach to hit making that Gordy and co. developed during the 14 years that they were there from 1959 to 1972.

Golden Limousine is proud to be able to provide a tour of the Hitsville museum as part of their tours of Detroit. In addition to the sports town reputation and the factories of the industrial age, the history of music in the city also provides a great deal of pride as well as a great tourist attraction for anyone who is interested. If you are interested in jogging some of those memories of the great days of Motown click here to check it out.

Brandon Inge makes the All Star team

For the first time in his tumultuous ten year career with the Detroit Tigers Third Baseman Brandon Inge is going to the All Star game in St. Louis on Tuesday July 14. One of the biggest reasons why Inge is going, aside from the fact that he is on pace to hit at least 30 home runs and is one of the best defensive third basemen in baseball, is because he had the benefit of one of the best marketing campaigns I've ever seen for a professional athlete.

It was very simple, the Tigers simple partnered up with the Philadelphia Philles, who were trying to get Shane Victorino in on the last ballot, to create the "Bran Torino" campaign, an obvious pun on the most recent and allegedly last Clint Eastwood film "Grand Torino." The movie was set and partially filmed in Detroit, giving the area some much needed screen time in the current economic state. Since the movie was nationally popular the Philly fans were able to get with the program and with no other teams partnering up to promote their stars, it was inevitable that the two would win.

Things like this goes to show the power of cooperation in order to achieve a common goal. In this case it shows how to manipulate popular culture into something catchy by working together. A lot of people have criticized both players, saying that they don't deserve to get to the All-Star game and maybe they weren't the best players out there. But by using something that fans knew about both teams were able to motivate the fans to get their players into the All-Star game on the last ballot.

You can see Inge and his three All-Star teammates, Justin Verlander, Edwin Jackson, and Curtis Granderson, at Comerica Park all summer long, currently the team is in first place and hopes to stay that way. If you want to get to the roar of the Tigers with time to catch batting practice talk to Golden Limousine who will give the extra effort to get you all the way home as well, no matter where home is.

Art Fair Townie Party

The Ann Arbor Art Fair starts on Wednesday July 15, and as a business in town we at Golden Limousine are proud to sponsor it. Although the fair has had an unfair reputation for holding up traffic in the area, it is also one of the most interesting things that happens in this town over what is normally a quiet summer with most of the students gone from the University of Michigan. It gives a sense of excitement to what normally can be a fairly dull summer in town. To celebrate and give back to the town that puts on this affair, they are throwing a Townie Party to show their appreciation for the city two days before the fair starts on Monday July 13.

(If you scroll down in the link you'll see a familiar logo amongst the sponsors.)

It will be a festive atmosphere for certain and there will be three bands playing the whole night (not at the same time) which should make for a fun and funky time for everybody down there. And for those who either want to get to the fair or the Townie Party in style you can always count on Golden to be there for you.

Seeing that I just talked about the Palace....Pistons News

Anybody who's been following Detroit sports knows about the Pistons coaching search this last week and change. After the firing of Michael Curry, who in his first season, had the unfortunate distinction of leading the team to their first losing season since 2001 in which the 'Stones got swept by Cleveland in the first round of the playoffs.

Apparently, Joe Dumars has found a new guy for the job in John Kuester an assistant for the Cleveland Cavaliers who once served as an assistant for Larry Brown on the 2004 NBA Championship team. After former Dallas Maverick coach Avery Johnson was perceived as the front runner in the search because of his experience, somehow negotiations between Dumars and him did not pan out. Fortunately for the Pistons they were able to find someone else pretty quickly and the final details of his contract are being hammered out as we speak.

If there's anything we have learned in the NBA offseason about the Detroit Pistons it's that Joe Dumars is a businessman not just another former player as a General Manager. He's willing to make tough decisions in order to get the most production out of the team. He doesn't always make the most popular decisions, but from where I'm sitting as a fan of the team, he's taken them a lot farther from where they were when he started.

Hopefully this will mean the beginning of a new and exciting run for the Pistons and anybody from the Motor City who wants to travel to the Palace like a King for a game is welcome to contact Golden Limousine about it.

New Packages Upcoming.

Pretty soon we should have some exciting concert packages on the site at venues like Comerica Park and the Palace of Auburn Hills. Kid Rock and Lynard Skynard will be at the former on July 17, and Beyonce will be appearing at the latter the next day. But the real treat for all you classic rock fans should be AC/DC at the Palace on Saturday August 16. Hopefully we'll be able to get you a link to this so you can get on the "Highway to Hell" in style with access to the Club 53 Lounge in the Palace for $147. Yes, that's the right "dirt cheap" price. "Thunderstruck" already? Then call (888)-968-9024 for details on this and any other upcoming Palace deal.

For those who want this deal, we salute you.

New University of Michigan deal

Golden Limousine now has a new deal with the hometown University of Michigan for the rest of the summer, showing that we care about the pride and joy of our state. Hopefully we may be able to come up with a new deal in the fall that will able us to continue to provide services in this way. Hopefully we will also be able to continue to provide services for the Athletic Department as we have done in the past, maybe even do discounts like this.

Press Release:

ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 7, 2009 – Golden Limousine International announces a new program that makes it easier and more affordable for educators and researchers to travel to and from the University of Michigan. Starting today, the Ann Arbor based company will offer all university departments, faculty, staff and visitors a 10-percent roll-back in pricing for ground transportation services. The program will remain in effect through Sept. 7.

“The University of Michigan is playing a central and vital role in shaping the future of our state and our society,” Sean Duval, president of Golden Limousine International, said. “With this new program, we intend to actively support the university in its vital role in moving our state and nation forward by making it easier for them to bring people together.”

The new service is intended to help University of Michigan faculty, staff and visitors attend conferences, meetings and lectures, on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn or Flint campuses. With one phone call, the staff of Golden Limousine International will arrange, direct and perform all of the logistical requirements in order to travel from and to local airports to the university’s campuses and facilities, as well as to and from hotels and restaurants. The program also is available for University of Michigan travelers to other cities across the nation and around the world.

With the Art Fair coming to Ann Arbor next week and the academic conferences happening year round we hope to maintain the support of the University of Michigan, as we have supported it for many years.

The Story of Golden Limousine.

Taking the Best Route

Sean and Donna Duval set their own course. When the Michigan economy slowed in 1992, the couple took matters into their own hands and founded Golden Limousine International. The company’s mission: to provide top-quality ground transportation services.

To make it so, the Duvals invested their talents and time, making it through the economic downturn and prospering. At all times, Golden Limousine has worked to provide “the best to the best,” serving statesmen, business leaders, celebrities and all who require excellence.
